New grey GRP flat roof on a dormer, with rooftops and trees beyond

Flat roofs

Flat roofs in GRP fibreglass and EPDM rubber

Extensions, garages, dormers and bays: old felt replaced with a seamless, hard-wearing flat roof.

Felt flat roofs blister, split and hold puddles as they age, and once water gets under the felt it soaks into the deck below. Patching only buys time.

We strip the old roof, replace the deck where it’s soft or rotten, and lay a new roof in GRP fibreglass or EPDM rubber, with new trims and edges so the water runs into the gutter, not down the wall.

Signs your flat roof needs replacing

Things you can usually spot from the ground, a window or the loft. Never climb onto the roof yourself.

  • Blisters, splits or cracks in the felt
  • Puddles that sit for days after rain
  • Damp or staining on the ceiling below
  • A deck that feels soft or springy underfoot
  • Moss and plants growing along the edges

GRP or EPDM?

Both last far longer than felt. We’ll recommend the right one for your roof.

  1. New grey GRP fibreglass flat roof with neat trims, overlooking gardens

    GRP fibreglass

Laid as one seamless layer with a hard-wearing topcoat. Neat around trims and edges, and good for roofs you need to walk on now and then.

  2. Grey flat roof between two slate roof slopes

    EPDM rubber

A single sheet of synthetic rubber that stays flexible in heat and frost. Quick to lay, and good on larger, simpler roofs.

How a new flat roof goes on

Simple from start to finish, with no deposit to pay.

Start with a free inspection
  1. Stripped back

The old felt comes off, so we can see the state of the deck underneath.

  2. A sound deck

Soft or rotten boards are replaced with new decking.

  3. GRP or EPDM laid

The new roof is laid in one piece, with no joints for water to find.

  4. Trims and edges

New trims, upstands and gutter outlets, so the water runs off where it should.

  5. You pay when it’s done

No deposit. You pay once the job is finished.

Questions

Something else? See all our questions, or give Alfie a ring.

Can a new flat roof go over the old felt?

We don’t recommend it. Covering old felt hides any wet or rotten deck underneath. We strip it, check the deck and replace what’s needed.

Can I walk on a GRP roof?

Yes, for occasional access, such as cleaning windows or gutters. Tell us if you’ll use it more than that, so we can allow for it.

Why does water sit on my flat roof?

Flat roofs need a slight fall to drain. Puddles usually mean the deck has sagged or the roof was laid without enough fall. A new deck can be laid to the right fall.
