Who we are

A & G Roofing is a roofing business based in Bridlington, East Yorkshire, run by Alfie and George. We decide how the details you give us are used, which makes us the data controller for them under UK data protection law.

What we collect

When you book a free inspection or ask for an estimate on this website

• your name, phone number and email address
• the address and postcode of the property
• if you'd like a visit, the day and time that would suit you
• the type of property, the work you need and anything you tell us about the problem
• any photos you add

Photos can show more than the roof, such as your house number, your car or people. Please leave out anything you'd rather we didn't see.

Details of the job, the photos we take before, during and after the work, and our quotes, invoices and records of payment.

When you visit this website

Like every website, ours receives technical information from your browser, such as your IP address and the pages you ask for. Cloudflare, which runs the website, uses it to deliver the pages and protect them from attacks. We don't use analytics that track you, and we don't try to identify you from it.

How we use it, and why the law allows it

The law only lets us use your details when we have a good reason, called a lawful basis. Ours are:

We don't make decisions about you by computer alone, and we don't build profiles of you.

Who sees your details

Only the people who need them. We never sell or rent your details. We use a few trusted services to run the business, and they only handle your details on our instructions:

• Cloudflare runs this website, the spam check on the form, and the delivery of your enquiry to our inbox.
• Google provides our email (Gmail).
• WhatsApp and Facebook (both Meta) carry your messages if you contact us there.
• Our accountant sees our records of jobs and payments, as does HM Revenue & Customs where the law requires.

We'd also share details if the law required us to, for example with the police or a court. If you leave us a review on Checkatrade or TrustATrader, their own privacy policies cover what you post there.

Outside the UK

Some of the services above, such as Cloudflare and Google, may handle your details in other countries, including the United States. When they do, your details are protected in the way UK law requires: by UK adequacy regulations (such as the UK extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework) or by contract terms approved by the Information Commissioner.

How long we keep it

• Enquiries that don't go ahead: we delete them within 12 months.
• Customers: we keep the details and records of your job for 6 years after the work is finished, as the law requires for tax, or for as long as your guarantee lasts if that's longer, so we can honour it.
• Photos of our work on this website and our social media stay up until we take them down, or until you ask us to.

The website itself doesn't keep a copy of your form or your photos once they've been sent to us. If a fault ever stops a message reaching us, the words you typed (not your photos) are kept in Cloudflare's system logs for up to a week, only so we can still get back to you.

Keeping it safe

Everything you send through this website travels over an encrypted connection. Your enquiry goes straight to our inbox, and every photo is checked to make sure it really is a photo. We keep your details on password-protected phones and accounts, and only the people who need them can see them.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:

• give you a copy of the details we hold about you
• correct anything that's wrong or incomplete
• delete your details
• stop or limit how we use them
• pass them to you, or to someone else, in a common format

You can also object to us using your details for our legitimate interests. Some rights have limits: for example, we have to keep records for tax even if you ask us to delete them, and we'll tell you if that applies.

To use any of these rights, contact us using the details above. It's free, and we'll reply within one month. We may ask you to confirm who you are first, to keep your details safe.

Complaints

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your details, please tell us first so we can put it right.
