Roofers in Hull

We work across Hull and the places around it, including Cottingham, Hessle, Anlaby, Willerby, Kirk Ella and Hedon.

Hull was the most heavily damaged British city in the Second World War, with 95 per cent of its houses damaged, so much of it was repaired or rebuilt afterwards. Alongside the post-war homes are the Victorian and Edwardian streets that survived, such as the Avenues, one of 26 conservation areas in the city.

The Avenues and older terraces

Hull’s Victorian and Edwardian streets, such as the Avenues and around Pearson Park, have slate roofs, big chimneys and bay windows. On roofs of this age the nails holding the slates rust away, and valleys and flashings wear. We repair what can be repaired, and re-slate when it’s time.

Post-war homes and estates

Many of the homes built after the war have concrete tiles, now old enough for the felt underneath to be failing. A re-roof with a breathable membrane, new battens and dry-fix ridges and verges sets them up for decades.

Roofing in Hull: your questions

Something else? See all our questions, or give Alfie a ring.

Do I need permission to re-roof in Hull?

Not usually, if the new roof looks like the old one. Hull has 26 conservation areas, including the Old Town and the Avenues, so if you live in one, or want to change how your roof looks, check with Hull City Council first. A listed building needs listed building consent for most changes.

Planning permission for a new roof
Can you replace a flat roof on an extension?

Yes. When the felt on an extension, garage or dormer roof fails, we replace it with GRP fibreglass or EPDM rubber, laid on a sound new deck where the old one has gone soft.
